Message to Patients

The Memorial Medical Centre would like to reassure you that at no point throughout the pandemic, nor since, have the GP’s at the practice stopped seeing patients.
We have had to make changes to our appointment booking system and this has been adapted and updated in line with government guidance with patient safety being our key priority. Currently the doctors at the surgery are providing telephone consultations for both routine and urgent appointments.
Many consultations can be safely dealt with on the telephone and if necessary the doctor will ask for images to be provided for review or they may decide to do a video consultation.
If the doctor needs to examine a patient then a face-to-face appointment will be arranged and the patient will be booked in by the doctor at a mutually agreed time and often on the same day.
We regret that despite working very long hours it is impossible for us to have the capacity to meet the appointment demands from our growing 16,000 patient list. You will no doubt be aware of the national shortage of GP’s and the fact that Swale is one of the most under-doctored areas in the country.
The GP’s and the practice team are constantly working to the limits of our capacity, so unfortunately some people who do need an appointment will be directed elsewhere when the safe limits at the practice are reached. The GP’s and the practice team are doing our best to meet the ever increasing demands put upon us and we would like to reassure you that looking after you is our main focus.
The Memorial Medical Centre as part of the NHS operates a zero tolerance policy with regard to verbal abuse, violence and physical abuse and the practice has the right to remove patients from the list with immediate effect in order to safeguard practice staff, patients and other persons. This context includes actual or threatened physical violence or verbal abuse which leads to fear for a person’s safety.
In this situation we will notify the patient in writing of their removal from the list and record in the patient’s medical records the fact of the removal and the circumstances leading to it.
Our staff work under constraints whilst endeavouring to offer the best possible service with the resources and facilities available.
