Empowering Patients and Enhancing Healthcare
The NHS requires every practice to have a Patient Participation Group (PPG) and your surgery has an active group. The group seeks to support the surgery’s continual improvement by implementing real, positive change that benefits patients.
What is a PPG and how does it run?
It is a collective of patients, carers and staff of the surgery and who, working together, want to help it deliver healthcare services as well as it can for patients, doctors and staff. It meets every 3 months for 1hour and 30 minutes. It has a chairperson and a secretary who records the minutes, discussions and the meeting outcomes. Members are encouraged to put forward agenda items to be discussed at the meetings.
What is its purpose and what does it do?
It allows two-way communication between patients and the surgery doctors, clinicians and staff. It plays an important role in helping patients have their say in the way services are delivered to best meet their needs, and the needs of the local community.
As a member you will have the opportunity to raise your views and deal with common issues by constructively providing suggestions as to how the practice is being run. Your personal experience as a patient will be valuable. Your input can help improve services by identifying changes that the practice may not have considered, allowing resources to be used more efficiently.
What is more, they can develop mutually supportive networks for patients and the practice, outside of individual appointments.
You will also have access to the surveys carried out by the practice and those that come from the PPG itself.
How to get involved?
We welcome enquiries from a diversity of patients who would like to join our patient group. If you are interested, please complete the form on the website https://www.memorialmedicalcentre.co.uk/about/patient-group/join-ppg/
or contact Management at memorialmedical@nhs.net or leave a note at the reception for the PPG chair.
Please note that only applications from current patients will be accepted. If you are a patient at another GP surgery, please ask them about joining their PPG.
